LEAVING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Yes, in the morning we will stow away our "stuff" and head out of the bay, after fuelling up of course. We are looking forward to making it about 20 miles tomorrow to a place called Puerto Salina. There is no big rush to get to Ensenada, our first port of entry in Mexico, as the custom office will not be open until Monday.
Today, we walked to the Customs and Home Land Security office in downtown San Diego to hand in our cruising permit that we had obtained at Port Angeles. It was a beautiful walk as you can tell by the pictures……….a nice park like walk most of the way. A lot of it was along the water ways so it was very enjoyable. We stopped for a nice cup of coffee and the most incredible "Danish" I have ever tasted. Claes loves them and buys them all the time but this was heavenly……..fresh and so tasty. All for around 5 bucks and enough for two. We walked past the Marine Museum and the sailing vessel The Star of India, of which is posted pictures when we first arrived. We passed it on our arrival into the port –you can see pictures of it in our photo album On Route to San Diego. It was nice to sit and people watch and enjoy the happenings of city life. Passed a number of homeless folks on the walk as well. They for the most part were courteous and wished us a good day when we initiated a greeting.
Our time at the Custom Office went rather smoothly. It was rather funny, actually as the two "rookies" that were waiting on us were hilarious! The older more season official—older meaner lady came on rather strongly but very quickly was chatting back and forth. Not at all what we expected. (I pray that it goes so well in Mexico!!!) When we were done we walked over to the old trolley from Old Italy to Old Town through Middle Town –of course. It was interesting to take a ride part way back.
Claes found a lady bug on my cheek so I carried him to some vegetation to let him free. I remember they were your favourites Cole when you were little. Does anyone remember the song?? Lady bug Lady bug fly away home??? Anyways, back to my story…..w e got a little mislead and ended up walking along way………………………………….found a mall and bought a few groceries. The malls here are very interesting. They are huge compounds with court yards and places to sit, drink coffee relax and enjoy your friends and around you are many different markets and stores. Rather nice. We were able to use the point system in "VONS" as they are affiliated to Safeway…………..we just gave your number Crista and sure enough there you were. Thanks……………we saved 5 bucks!!
We were nearly home when we spotted a cool looking Mexican Cantina. This little place had the best Margaritas which we added an order of Cervices to………….Google that and you will discover the best snack ever. Lots of lime and cilantro. Love it…………………..hope you enjoy the pictures I took today. I so enjoy taking them knowing that you will be seeing them and knowing what we are up to.
Now, we are both very tired and weary. Not sure if we will be able to move tomorrow as we walked along way today……………Claes says 7 miles but it feels like 15~~~~~~~
The first time ever Joey came across another cat tonight and I just heard some noises and then here he comes, discussed that she did not want to socialize…he went to bed.
Tried to call a few of you to night but our connection just does not hold long enough for a decent conversation. Not sure what we will do when we get to Mexico as we sure enjoy talking with you but it very frustrating to see you but know that you cannot hear us…………we will continue trying and report back.
The Captain says it is about 100 hours away from Capos San Lucas. It sounds like a long way but does go fast. We are looking forward to just cruising downs there, doing a little fishing and anchoring whenever we get tired. No rush…………..manana!!!!!
Hope to talk with you all soon. Angus and Cole ---keep your eyes open for the mail. Grandma is mailing something tomorrow. Check out the photo gallery as I have just now uploaded a video of some porpoise I played with on Sunday plus cool pictures of boat and submarines I took.
