A Beam Eurica California
So here I have caught you up to date. It is Saturday August 29th our sons 31st birthday. Hope you are having a great one Ryan! We left this morning by 09:30 am and are heading due south to Eurica California. It has been foggy most of the day but now at 14:45 it is nearly all dissipated and the water is a nice green color a lot like on Savary Island…………Claes saw another whale……….by the time I got the camera out he was gone……………there are a lot of crab pots way out here with about 325 feet of water. They are very dangerous as they can get into your rudder……..and that would not be a good thing. Another thing that you must watch for is the large kelp beds they too can get into your rudder. The wind is now coming from the north so that helps us go a little faster. We travel at about 6 knots an hour………….which is not very fast. We have the main sail up today to help us along and it is rather lovely……..we are praying for following seas and fair winds and in two days we will rest again and then set off for Half Moon Bay, which is 20 miles south of San Francisco where Doug will leave us to return to his wife Pam in Comox.
(I will write again soon………….my battery is nearly spent. (By the way the two solar panels are great and working just fine. If I wanted I could plug in the computer but I think I will read for awhile. My fourth book, by the way. The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult.)

We are anchored at Port Orford tonight waiting for weather to change. It has been very rough with a SE wind and large swell and waves too of course. So it is slow going and everyone is pretty tired. The fog does take a lot out of you-- energy wise…………..there is something to say about having the sun in your life.
This is a small fishing village from what I can see from the boat. It is pretty windy so don’t think I will row into to find a church this Sunday morning; I will have a little personal time with God right here on the deck. Can’t say enough of how I am appreciating the sunshine as I watch the pelicans and other strange birds having their breakfast. I see one fellow fishing off the rocks and it isn’t long before he has what looks like a cod. There is a nice beach with a family enjoying some time together.
I make notes and will share with the guys when they wake so we can decide what our options are in the morning. The weather report will be the decision maker but it will be good to know what harbors lie ahead…………remember this Oregon coast is not like our BC coast is. It is pretty rugged and foggy. Not condusive to anchorage. The harbors that our available are for the most part dangerous for a large vessel to enter as you mostly have to cross the sand bars to get to the docks. So far we have been very fortunate.
August 31,2009 leave at 07:00 am with 10-15 k winds, sunny skies, small swell. We are heading south with Doug at the wheel. The crew is chipper after a peaceful evening a nice chicken dinner and even a glass of wine. The decision is to continue south staying in closer to shore - 10 miles or so which will result in a smoother sail once the fog lifts which should be around mid day. We motor sail onward with out incident.
September 1st 07:30 am.. I slept in! After making a small breakfast and coffee for everyone (even though I have not been enticed to drink any) Claes is feeling good. He had planned on leaving Cape Flattery by the first of this month. So we are in his mind a week ahead of schedule. He is beginning to look tired so is Doug. I…………..am looking forward to a shower and yet I am tired. We are now abeam Eurica California and looking forward to completing this leg of the journey.
The day is incredible with wall to wall sunshine and dolphins playing in our bow water. They are so incredible. I go out to sit and entice them and tease them on.
We are motoring straight through everyone taking a watch. Tonight is mine from 6-9 and I am a little apprehensive but with the help of my IPod and some great worship music I just pray my way right through my watch.
