Our time in and about Costa Rica has come to an end. Somewhat bitter sweet as we do LOVE this
country, our friends here and the feeling of home that has grown in our
hearts. Looking back to 1994, 1998 and
last seasons’ 2012 visits we are filled
with memorable months of land travel that
afforded us the opportunity to
really experience this beautiful tropical country. We truly do have a sense that we “know” this
part of Central America.
To date this season
highlight has been sailing here and raising that Costa Rican courtesy flag, (which
signifies the country that you are visiting).
Yesterday, January 27th, 2013 we departed Golfito and spent
the night at Punta Balsa which was about 50 some odd miles travel for the
day. We did sense a difference in the
weather. First of all no afternoon rain
and the presence of a breeze that was refreshing. We arrived just in time to anchor before the
sunset and to watch the incredible new moon rise. Absolutely stupendous with its rich red
golden glow and so huge. The evening was
so bright and complimented with a solar shower – the water kind. Sitting on the upper roof of the dodger we
star gazed and slowly eased ourselves into bed for a very comfortable sleep.
Today, we are charted towards Isla Partida and are enjoying
a very calm sea, clear skies and a dolphin escort. Still just love those guys. These local fellas are fairly big, with lots
of white spots on their backsides and side………I whistle and they seem to
acknowledge us and playfully guide us along. There is little traffic out here
and for a change we seem to be further out then usual-rather than travelling
very close to shore. We are about 15
nautical miles out- close enough that you see the land very easily. Unfortunately we have been following a fish
net………marked with black flags and white buoys.
This is a very long system of nets……….and finally The Captain decides to
cross “the line” as we are beginning to
travel away from our evening destination.
All goes well and we are back on track with lines of our own out there
to catch supper.
We are both very excited about the next chapter of the trip;
a new country, new culture, new waters.
So, as we travel on we continue to be filled with that Spirit of
Adventure, that sense that there is yet another few pages to turn………….keep in
touch and The Lord willing we will chat again.
