SASS

Image
You might remember reading about this in 2009 when The Captain and I were in La Paz.  SASS was a group of women of got together with as Sailors acquiring sailing skills.   Today I want to borrow that acronym and adopt it for my sisters her in the valley.   The last few weeks have been bitter sweet for me as I prepare to depart once more.   Lots of tears shed and aches in my back: Lilian, from up the street at Summervale, sent the following tonight..........might explain a few things for you. (Remember she was Joeys' care giver last season??) Read on: "I just finished taking an evening class at Stanford. The last lecture was on the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman, whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her ...

EL SALVADOR UPDATE

Image
Information from our young friend Claudia; her family lives near Zacateloca which is inland from where THE WHITESHELL is moored, reported this morning that the most affected areas were communities all along the coast and Santa Tecla , which is north west of San Salvador , the capital of the country.  The pictures you see is what it looked like last April when we there.   She further reported that  communities nearby the largest rivers, the Lempa  River in particular, which is north east of the captial.....have become swollen with waters causing  the wash out of bridges   flooding of the  plantations  and completely ruining them.  Many  families are now without a livelyhood or  a place to live.  Many are in a shelter until further notice :(   If anyone is interested in helping in any way please get back to me..............and we can work on something.  I am certain there are many int...

SAILORS SUFFERING SLIGHT SIGNS OF TRANSITION

Image
Feelings are mixed these days as we continue to prepare for our departure.  The Captain should be on his way home saturday,  I continue to sort, sift and sort again as I pack.  What do we need to take, what do we want to take, what can we live without????  The weather here continues to be crisp but very lovely as our autumn season turns into a very nice time to enjoy the beach and the waves.  Folks are settling into the resort for the winter and again many interesting stories are being shared.  Jane and Fred have easily made their transition form the Fire Tower in Alberta to unit #6 here at Kye Bay.  They are great and so supportive of us. Joey will remain the resort KAT and hunker down for the winter with them and the laundry room.  Oh, my heart is heavy in that regard cause you know the struggle I have with leaving him behind.  In my mind I know it is the best for him but my heart will miss him so.  He is my little buddy, never comp...
