REALIZING OUR DREAM TO RETURN TO COSTA RICA

Image
Two weeks has passed so quickly.  Gerald and his familia have been so warm and accommodating; our every need is met and each moment filled with such caring. Our Spanish vocabulary continues to grow and I am beginning to think in Spanish.  I LOVE IT!! Our first week included getting reacquainted with the town which after seventeen years was expected.  We did find the little Catina where we initially met Heraldo; repainted and with  up grade to the bano it remains one of the downtown gathering places for the fellas.  Zina, Geralds mom is so great at including me in her daily life.  Mind you I am not always certain what or where or who but that is part of the adventure.  Because of our minimal Spanish we are continually surprised.  We both laugh continually as one never knows--quite!!!  It is fantastic and keeps us very interested.

SAILORS TRAVELLING BY BUS

Image
TICA BUS, owned by Costa Rica is an excellent means of long distance transportation in Central America; from Mexico all the way to Panama, the route uses #1 Highway.  Some of us know that highway starts in Lund, BC as Highway #101 and ends at the Panama Canal.  They feed you and even offer a discount to stay at their hotels. It We have bought our return tickets to San Jose, Costa Rica leaving here this friday, to travel to San Salvador City and  reserved a room at Hotel Meson de Marie in  Colonia San Bonito  $32.00  USD for a double room with bath and TV and a wake up call , as we leave at 2:00 am Saturday morning  December 10th, 2011.  My day trip to the big city yesterday was successful in many ways, but most importantly, I confirmed all of this.  You,may ask what is the concern???  Well, here in the Americas all is not always as it appears!

FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER HAD TWO SUNDAYS IN IT!!!

Image
Must be getting the hang of this sailing life : got up the yesterday day certain that is was Sunday.  Slept in, loafed about reading and drinking coffee...........even made the traditional Pancake Breakie.  Thought we would take a walk later in the afternoon and wondered why it was so busy what with all the panga boats going out to fish, even Sam and the boys were working on the next boat over.  Different for a sunday!!! Got over to beach with the dingy and walking over to Santos Marine with Claes making funny comments about working Sunday.............must be pretty busy guys!!  They both turned to us and said  "We always work Saturday."  Both Claes and I burst out laughing leaving them both definitely thinking that we were pretty loco!!!!!    We continue on our walk excited that we had gained a day and pleased with ourselves that we were really beginning to get the hand of this relaxing thing. I am off to the big cit...

WHITE SHELLS' FIRST MATE BACK AT HER BLOG STATION

Image
It has been a long time my friends!!!! We are back!!!! It felt so good to be back to familiar faces and so assuring to see them all safe and dry!!!! We were relieved to be able to stay on the White Shell from the onset, though She needed a lot of cleaning. More on that when I will elaborate later on The Captains Page. Keeping in mind that a major factor to all this “work” is the temperature. Yes, I know for the most part you all are not wanting to hear about that: it certainly impacts how much work one can get done in a day. We are finally adjusting and beginning to enjoy the climate; the rain has stopped, less humidity and the wind has picked up which affords a nice breeze mainly in the evening. We had a week of incredible thunder and lightening storms……….reminded me somewhat of the storms we had in Alberta when we were kids Brother Paul!!!! Actually pulled up the blanket half way through the night the last few nights………………and turned off the fans! Now ...
