On to Port Angeles Friday
With Friday morning in front of us a few lesson already learnt we headed across Juan de Fuca Straight for Port Angeles; without incidence we sailed into the industrial port that reminded us of Powell River….the mill town we lived in for over 30 years. We tied up and proceeded to contact the customs officer. With very little concern the nice young man asked us a few questions sold us “decal” and Cruising permit and welcomed us to the U S OF A. We enjoyed a relaxing evening with the two Katz slowly venturing out on the dock to inspect more boats. After a nice supper and a glass of wine we went to our bed early.
Bright and early Saturday morning Ron and Patricia arrived on the dock asking permission to come aboard! It was so great to see them as they had both been very instrumental in procuring many items for our voyage. Ron you are fantastic with your research abilities and contacts. Thanks Man! We love you………………we had such a great time didn’t we Patricia? You and I shopping for the best buys and of course the healthiest brands. You were great as most of the brands were unknown to me……………plus we just had the best time in the fresh market square. Too bad the sweet peas were the last to be had and the lady just did not want to bargain with us. The guys got the rest of the wind vane installed, and a few chores on the mast were looked after with Ron doing the climbing. The weekend went way too fast…filled with good meals shared together, tons of belly laughing and promises to meet again later this year but this time further south.
As we waved the Girards off we turned to walk down the ramp and realized we were finally on our own and nearly on our way. We knew that when we would put up the sails in the morning that God would provide the wind. As promised Doug Goodwind, a friend of Claes’ met us on the dock later that day and he and Claes began the last preparations for our departure in the morning.
