135 Miles to Santa Maria

Today we will fill you in what it is like to do a long run. This means running all day all night and into the next day to arrive at our destination. If we average 5 knots of wind it will take us 27 hours to cover that distance. We did not get up very early as you will recall that the bay was shock full of lobster traps and we opted to not fight with them. Sure would be nice to pull one of them up on our way through but then we would likely be calling you to bail the Captain out of the clinker!!! They frown upon that here as well as back home—snatching someone elses catch that is. We are not allowed to fish for shell fish of any kind so we are anxious to find someone to trade for a feed. We pulled up anchor and were on the way by 8 am. We have had a nice little NW wind that has produced a steady 4-5 knots wind. Claes has all the sails up today………..that is, three of them which makes us a Ketch. We have DOUG working today and it is a beautiful gorgeous sunny day. November 20th can you believe it? It has been three months since we left our beloved Canada (which is 1435 nautical miles a way -- as the crow flies) and all of you. I can just know hear Claes reply as I remind him of this…………."just another day in a great life".

He is pretty pleased these days. All of his major projects are complete and of course all on board is working in top shape. He is resting these days and being forced to not start on any of his little projects, like finishing the stereo cabinet and installing a shelf here and there for me. We will do a major clean when we get to La Paz in preparation for Christmas. We both are enjoying traveling with two other vessels today. S/V Moonraker , from Quesnel and Salish Seas from Shanigan Lake. Aboard Moonraker is Captain Jack, his first mate Meagan, her nephew Cory and his girl friend Clara. Salish Seas is Captained by Ian, who is meeting his wife in Cabos, on board with him as crew is Will, a fine young man , a son of a friend of his. He has known Will since he was just a baby. We all met in Sandiego and are basically travelling south with not too many days planned in advance. They all love Joey and at the end of the next few days we will congregate in the habour at Sante Marie Bay and then move on to Magdelena Bay for provisions and rest before we make the last leg to Capos. No one really intends on travelling together it just sort of happens and makes for community. No strict rules or expectations. We do communicate via the VHF monitoring Channel 16 and chatting on 68. We keep up with weather from the vessels that have all the fancy radios. The vessel that leaves first usually radios any security issues or points of interest. It's great fun! Remember to check out our photo gallery for pictures, that way this written account will be enhanced with the visual. Please let me know how they are when you click on the albums so that we can be assured that all is working as it should. Yes, that means that I would like you to leave a comment after you have read the blog!!!! Do you think you could do that for me-us?

As we sail DOUG is steering so we are free to do pretty much want we want today. Such is the life when you have wind and a wind vane. Thank You GOD! If and when we lose the wind we will motor at which time we will make some water and replenish are tank. Likely we will have showers as well as the motor heats our water. I hope to read some more and begin thinking about some video footage I would like to create.

Supper will likely be stir fry as I have left over beef and my fridge needs clearing out. The night will be awesome as the sky has been so clear showing off the countless stars . This is so enjoyable when the weather is nice and the sea calm…………..which it has been for some time now. I pray that we will continue to be blessed and we can sail down and around the Cape the next week. We are thinking we will stop somewhere for a few days before we make that last big push Magdelena Bay know as Maggie Bay! ( This one is for you sister Maggie!)

Don't want to over stay my welcome so will sign off for now.

Love you lots and talk to you soon. Claes and Lue and Joey on the sea!
