NEW SCENERY

After ten days anchored in the Bay of Dreams….aka Ensenada de los Muertos we have made our way back up in to the Sea towards La Paz. As we entered into the San Lorenzo Channel we heard our friends from the S/Vs Nautilus and Salish Seas chatting back and forth making plans to head out to Isla Partida to a little bay called Ensenda el Cardonal. Our plans were quickly changed and we continued right up the west side of Isla Espiritu Santo and truly are enjoying our rendezvous with our cruising buddies. It seems like it has been some time since we last saw them so we spent the evening sharing a meal of Mai Mai (fish) a few beers and lots of stories. Ian now has Diane, his bride on board the Salish Sea so we had supper at their table all contributing to make a fantastic time. We are truly missing Kristen as she is taking a wee break and getting her grandma fix up in Seattle…she should be home Wednesday.

After an incredible sleep as it is so peaceful—quiet and calm here in this very long and protected bay we arise to a very beautiful morning. As you can see from the pictures the terrain is different. These two national park islands lie 20 miles north of the city of La Paz. The geographic history of plates pulling apart and creating new crust under the sea has exposed the islands colorful striated layers of pink, ivory and black rock. These long shallow bays are very inviting to anchor in as they offer beautiful sand beaches and clear clean turquoise water. After breakfast we dinged in to shore and hiked to the other side of the island. Again from the pictures you can see that it is much greener as the Mangroves edge the little marshes of water. Returning to our boats we had Claes and Ian's favorite lunch: hot dogs. Everyone is now having an afternoon rest and will join up later for a swim and supper at Steve's………………..pasta, Caesar salad, French bread and I made a stovetop crumble cake. (see recipe section).

We plan on going back to La Paz tomorrow to do laundry, get provisions and find some insurance for the boat. Most marinas ask that you have liability coverage so we will seek that out and take care of business while we await the arrival of Roz (our friend and boss from Kye Bay). We hope to show her around the islands as she is excited to spend some time with us o nboard.

I shall say good day and get back to my book. Lue on the Sea

  1. Sounds like you are loving Baja so far. The islands are wonderful and you can just spend so much time away from crowds and enjoying life. I have to ask where the recipe section is. I have looked and maybe it is hidden somewhere or still under construction? Can't wait to read more and see more pictures. It is raining here in SF but going to the boat on Tuesday for a bit. Cheers!!

  2. Good morning Deborah! Yes, the recipe section is still under contructtion. Actually in the "draft"mode so wont be long!!! I promise. You know how it goes now that we are back in La Paz we are just such social butterflies. We need to stay home and rest before our friends form Victoria arrive on Tuesday.

We are thinking of all of you in California and Arizona as the storm seems to be hitting you very hard. It is the third storm that we were all watching. Here we have cloudy periods and very little rain but the area North of Loretta has been hit very badly.
