WAITING OUT A “BLOW”

In sailors talk that means we are anchored in Punta Polpito waiting for the current heavy winds to blow themselves out! That probably is confusing for you as you have been hearing us praying and talking about wanting wind so we can sail. Grab a cuppa and one of these nice warm peanut butter cookies that just came out of my oven and we'll talk about it!

Our location is exactly at 26' 30.896'N, 111'26.995" W.
Punta Pulpito which is a 475 foot high headland that appears to be an island at first glance but closer to, the low flat land connecting with the point can be seen. A giant vein of black obsidian glass on the point's southern shore exposes the area's volcanic history.

We had a great day yesterday getting here; leaving Playa Del Burro at 5:30 am gave us a nice early start to motor up the Bahi Concepcion and around the cape to head down the Sea. ( a 48 nautical mile trip.) Later in the morning NNW wind increased to about 12-15 knots which was great for sailing and as we rounded the point to enter for anchorage the nice downwind that we had been enjoying increased to about 20. It all made for an interesting entry and challenging exercise to anchor. Working as a team as we always do, we set the anchor at 13:45 to enjoy a nice sunny afternoon-blustery but warm.

We spent ourselves tidying up and having a nice lunch after which we listened to a podcast that I had downloaded from our Faith Community in Santa Cruz. "Andy you give an incredible talk….. my boy! It was something about assurance! You make learning about Christ so very interesting! Thanks for being so engaging. For all of you who are following us from that lovely city—HELLO—and may God bless what you continue to and are doing for your community—giving water to the thirsty!!! " Those of you who want to hear more check out our list of favorite links on the side bar and link into Andy and his friends. For those of you who are not interested…….that's okay too ….let's carry on.

The rest of the afternoon was left to relax and start a new book. The Ipod came into use again as we listened to some music are good buddy Brad downloaded for us before we left Comox. It was so good to hear your voice and incredible lyrics!!!! Which by the way we are learning and will soon be able to sing all on our own!!! HAHAHAH! Thanks to some moose meat that Tanya sent with us we had a nice rice and meat dish for supper. Even though we did not change our time yesterday we still enjoyed the later sunset and longer day light and entertained ourselves with a game night. First dominoes, then rummicube!

We got up fairly early with full intentions to head over to Isla Coronados which is 38 NM away but after we listened to the weather report on the shortwave radio the Captain decided we were quite fine to stay put and not bother with the 29 knot winds that were expected for today. That we think is a little too brisk for us……………though for some it might be awesome sailing wind. As we look out our windows we can see those white horses prancing out there; very happy that we are tucked in we safely enjoy the spring winds! That brings me back to why some wind is better than others. It all depends on the direction, my friends. What direction one wants to go and what direction the wind is coming from! Being as we are now heading south we like the North winds that are present but will moderate which speed we will utilize!

Part of the day yesterday was planning our next month as we get closer to the time of returning to Canada. We basically have 8 full travelling days to get us back to La Paz. Of course depending on the weather we will spread that out and stop at a few coves and beaches that we missed on the trip up; time filled with more picture taking and lots of enjoyment in the sun.

The past months has seen us "buddy boat" a lot and that was a great experience with treasured opportunities to cultivate great relationships. Our sailing buddies will forever be part of this adventure and times spent with you all will be kept close to our hearts. Thoughts of all the fun times as well as the learning times will bring tears and laughter to our days. Now we are two or should I say three, we must not forget the Second Mate Joey!!! It seems a little different to look out and not see you guys out there anchored besides us……. We miss you too! And as they say… as we wish you fair and safe sailing. GOD's speed!
