AHOY MATES!

Under sail and "abeam" of Malibu Beach! It is a glorious day and one that The Lord is certainly blessing us with! I have tried to make our blog enjoyable for you all and have down played some of the weather that we have been experiencing so I really mean it when I call today a blessing from God. It is very beautiful out here especially as it is calm with about 14 knot winds. We need to motor right now to get running hours on the motor for when we have it serviced in San Diego. That means that the winds are not that important as we don't need to sail right now.

The water: is a shimmering rich shade of blue turning greenish the closer to shore us get—some spots are pretty shallow as there are a lot of sand bars along the California Coast. It is a very long coast and now the terrain to the left of us is getting a little redder and somewhat greener in spots. (I do miss our lush BC Coast) The sun is shining and there is not a cloud in the sky. Absolutely fantastic. ( I got out of my jogging pants today and have some caprice on even!!!!) We are now nearing Las Angeles. We will anchor in Redonda Beach tonight and go another 40 or so nautical miles tomorrow to Danna Point then on to San Diego Saturday.

A TREAT: It is really a treat to be able to sit at the computer in the galley (the kitchen) and write to you all. Usually I rush a little note after supper when we are in harbor so is looking forward to giving you a little more insight today. We are not really doing Halloween but are being exposed to the Spanish take— the night of the dead………our English version of Hollows Eve- All Saints Day or as our Swedish Cousin Bengt explained in his email yesterday:"

The Kat: Joey
is doing so well. He is truly amazing us. He does really look forward to getting off the boat rushing to touch the dock… We have decided he must have genetic roots in Alberta as he is definitely eager to smell and feel dirt! As cats do, he quickly sets his territory for the night or few days that we happen to be there: going out in the evening but returning –usually a number of times…….jumping on the bed to let us know that he is okay. He is such a good boy. He does not like the rough seas anymore than we do!!!!! He is well though and settling into the routine insisting that he wants fresh water from the tap not a dish. Works well when under way as you don't have water dished rolling around the floor

Internet: I must apologies for our internet connect with those of you who are blessing us with Skype………it is what it is. Sometimes great like last night and this morning in and around the Channel Islands. Please keep trying and be patient as we are so excited to hear from you and to see your smiles hearing your cheerful voices. Would especially like to keep visiting all of our smaller friends – grand children and extended grandchildren……………thank you!

The Captain: is doing well. He is being just so considerate of my level of tolerance for big seas! I am sure he could take much more than I but we both agree that if we don't have to be "out there' we won't. Time is on our side and we are enjoying a leisurely sail down the wild California coast in late /early November. The local say that the weather is early this year…….that they are having more rain than usual and the Santa Anna winds are more vigorous. So we just carry on as we can. Claes has done a lot more things on the boat that were not finished before we left and he has a lot of new ideas for things as we go. He is never bored that is for certain. We do have our chores and seem to be working well together in that regard. (He has not yelled at me yet! LOL)

The Galley: Love my kitchen. We are truly enjoying some different things and ideas. We were in a very authentic Mexican market the other day in Santa Barbra and were amazed at all the different chilies, beans and things that we did not recognize. The veggies were beautiful and the meat section was amazing! Huge cuts and packages and some very strange offerings---chicken feet! Yap………..all nice and clean and ready for some incredible recipe. I am looking forward to experimenting as I go but I think we will by pass them. It is interesting how we are adapting to having and not having; of improvising and coming up with wonderfully good but different combinations of things.

The Gym: We both are feeling really well and are for the most part not complaining of any of our old aches and pains. (Must admit when the seas are heavy it is very physical to be at the wheel. You learn very quickly that this is not a "kid's game". Sailing is not for the meek and mild that is for certain.) But again God has been really good to us and we are learning so many things.

And the Garden: even though Joey had a "comfort" sleep in it the other day when the sailing was rough………is growing quite nicely. I have snipped a few springs of arugula and am going to do a major trim tonight for a salad. The parsley and chives are growing but have a little ways to go before they can contribute to the Captains Table.

Well folks, I should close for today. The scenery out there is beautiful and I am missing it all!!

Besides the Captain wants a cup of coffee. Please write in our comments and check out our pictures and talk to us soon. Love you all and miss you much.
