All Is Well Here in Purto Escondido

The Tsunami  did not affect us here other then a rise in the tide. Pretty hot though!  One of the hotest days yet-- mid 80's!  Phew!  Walked to the store--about a mile to provision up as we hope to depart for points north--on Monday. The furthest we will likely go is to Sante Rosilita, which is another 112 miles.  There will not be any large communites.  We will then make our way back.............we will try to make some Skype calls before then. Please pray that the local bar will be able to get their Satelite dish working by tomorrow so we can watch the guys win that game!!! Lue and Claes

TSUNAMI WARNING ON THE PACIFIC

Image
Massive 8.8 earthquake in Chilli has Pacific on alert. Check this link for more info.   http://weather.org/stormwatch The Sailing Community is very aware and organized as to these warnings and we are all on alert and monitoring the situation.  Via the VHF radio here in Porto Escondido we just heard that there is only one port on the Mexican coast that has been closed; the others are on alert but not expecting any problems.  Because of the tracking that is available most people can be warned well in advance to move to higher ground or in our case go out to sea, where we would be safe. Please know that we are well and we ask for your continued prayers that we remain that way! Lue and Claes

Olympic Spirit

Yes, even down here in the Baja we are excited!   It is so strange to not beable to just turn the tv on though!   Do be appreciative.  Most of the tv stations do not have international rights so we can not view events until they are over.  We are hoping to get to a local sports bar for tomorrows big game. Here is an interesting note: Having made it back to Vancouver just in time to celebrate the gold medal victory of Canada's women's hockey team, the prime minister Stephen Harper has a full day of Olympic events ahead of him.

ANOTHER WINNING DAY!!!!!

Image
We are setting out to Loreto, the original Capital  of the Baja.  We are looking forward to our day of touring and seeing the history and  local color of this very old mission.  Might even get a little shopping in!!! This morning I have the coffee ready and the galley door closed to keep in the heat from the oven, as I am making some nice fresh bread for breakie.  It is a little chilly so is a warm welcome as well. Not sure if we will be able to find a place to watch the hockey game tonight but know we will be cheering and there in spirit!!! Thanks to sister Irene for sending us this picture. LAUNDRYS DONE AND THE FRIDGE IS FULL!

What more could we ask for hey!!!!!  Besides we have been Skyping our family and seeing pictures of them all.  Does the heart good!  To the left Angus and Stella in Powell River. Had a great day on the dock: showers, laundry and the best cheese burger and papas (fries) in a long time.  We had a much needed walk after thaT indulgence and made our way to the local tienda........store for a few fresh vegetables and beers.  The owner offered us all a ride back in his van.  What a nice guy!  Excellent service Mexican style. The wind is abating - about 14-15 knots at the moment with sunny skies.  It's been a great day! Hope the Boys are winning the game today!  Go Canada Go! Olympic fever in Port Esquendedo

LET THE WIND BLOW!

Image
Blow it did!  Up to 48 knots all day yesterday afternoon and into the night..............we are anchored on a buoy here in the port and stayed on board to watch that lines were secure. We are now listening to the morning "NET" to see what is in store for us today.  Us gals would like to go in and do our laundry.  It was a great day yesterday to clean / defrost the fridge and make bread............and of course read and update my blog. Read on to hear how our grandson Cole, on the left made his Swedish Grandpa proud!!!

IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME

Yesterday morning we weighed anchor ( which means pulling up the anchor, which by the way I do as we do not have a wind lass—I am it!) I do enjoy it as it is a great upper body work out! We made our way to Porto Escondido, which is 14 miles from Loreto. Check your maps as we are now in the Central section of the Baja Peninsula heading towards the north as the Sea lies. I had imagined it as a huge body of water and now see it as not so big. We can usually see the land of the peninsula on our port side and many many islands, islas ……….at times you can see the main land of Mexico in the far distance. Usually that is very vague as it is probably over 100 miles away. The mountains continue to change and are getting more rugged and steeper in appearance. Most of it is very volcanic so very desolate. (I do continue to miss the beauty of our green mountains of home!) These are beautiful in their own way………….and are getting redder in color which makes for magnificent sun sets!
