PLAYING WITH THE TOUCANS

Image
Check this website out to see what we were up to today!  Had a great time for most of the day walking, watching and enjoying a delicious cup of Miramundo Coffee grown here in Honduras. The fella that owns this place is an American from Alaska. He and his brother in law started out with a few birds and are now involved in rescuing and raising these exotic birds.  It is a fabulous location and set up just perfectly.  They raise the birds as well as rescuing them and release many every year.  The amazing bit of info we discovered today is that the Toucan, the bird on the right mates for life and if and when its mate dies, it in turn commits suicide!!!!  Check their site and learn morn. http://www.macawmountain.com/

SCHUTTLE BUS TO COPAN HONDURAS

Image
The morning came rather early as our departure was for 6 am but the fund raiser last night aka street party went on and on.............in true Central American style:  very loud and noisy!!!!!  The four of us were out on the calle with our packs and had time to find a coffee.  The schuttle was a little tardy and we left about 6:45.  We went through San Salvador City and up to the Guatemala boarder, via Sante Anna and on to Copan arriving without incident around 1ish.  It is warm of course and we have found a wonderful little hotel  La Pasada de Belssy.  Complete with free WIFI, hot water and a small pool we are tucked in for a few days at $16.00 per night.  We have new money to understand too called lempiras, 20 of which equal a US dollar.  Life is good.  We have already figured out the best place for happy hour where the boys will enjoy 2 rums for 35 LLs. We had a really tasty fajitta at Via Via, owned by a trio of friendly Belgians...

PLAYA EL TUNCO ELSALVADOR

Here are a few nice shots we took last night and today.   Pretty different for The Captain and I staying in a surf town at a hostel surrounded by young folks say 18-33.  For the most part very fun time, lots of chatter in the pool and a great time at the beach today.  Leaving bright and early in the am 6 on  a schuttle bus to Honduras.  Enjoyed a street party early this evening as the locals had a fund raiser to build a park for the kids.  We are up in our rooms now, enjoying A/C and a bit of reading time as the party continues down on the street.  The volume control is something they do not know how to operate!!!!! Funny that?

BACK PACKS ARE LIGHT-CAMERA IS READY

Leaving the White Shell behind for the rest of the week as we head out with S/V Teca, Joanne and Bill from Edmonton as we head for the surf beach of Libertad then on to Honduras and the Copan ruins. Stayed tuned............skype us if you wish as we will have our little computer with us.

CONTINUING ON TO SUCHITOTO, EL SALVADOR

Image
We found the travel comfortable and easy the next 47 or so clicks and arrived in Suchitoto, a picturesque historical city of northeast  El Salvador .  Located between the Guazapa volcano and the Lempa River the climate is warm throughout the year at 440 meters above sea level.  The city's name means place of the flower bird and is detailed with cobbled stoned streets, old historical buildings that date back to colonial times.   It reminded us of Antigua, Guatemala but not quiet as pretty or clean.  The people were exceptionally friendly and even though they are all very distracted with the upcoming election....they are quick to greet us and to wish us a welcome.  This little fella entertained us during our supper at Villa Balanza We arrived around lunch time and found many choices of eateries in the central square.  The merchants offered things including   tours, ice cream, many artisan shops and a few hotels and or hostel...
