That is the womens gathering that happens monthly here in La Paz as a networking opportunity for those of us out here learning to be sailors: some of the women have been cruising for many many years and some for only a few months, therefore the time spent together involves many exchanges of stories, some funny and some very educational. Some of the ladies are co captains and others willing first mates all are eager to learn and live aboard/cruise a with their Captain. This in its self is large lesson to learn. My thoughts are that there has to be one person that makes the final decision and on the WhiteShell II that is Captain Claes.
Susan Ross has been sharing her personal information regarding anchorages up the Baja coast all the way down the Mexican coast. Incredible information she is sharing with us............ a few of my buddies and I take sat in on the next course, got pumped to go to the mainland. The session covered the anchorages from Mazatlan down to the Tehuntapec Cape, which is very large cape with many challenges. Susan spoke about what anchorages were better than others noting that in some areas it is very muddy therefore the scope required for the anchor chain was 10:1; in Canada the general rule is 7:1. Setting the anchor is a little different in that you set 25 feet at a time, letting it settle in the mud, following up as usual with a good double check. Nothing worse than drifting away!
We are working on a few "house" chores before we set off for the final leg of the Sea. Claes fixed a leak I had around the sink and needs to do some motor maintenance before we set off. Also our wind indicator was found on the front deck the other day???? Claes thinks a bird hit it...........so up the mast someone needs to go to replace it. I have been finalizing some paper work with insurance, air flights and cat travel. Still fighting this cold so pray for me as I am a tad miserable!!! The Captain is very patient!
Well guys this is is for today. Looks like the weather is changeing a little. It has been raining and cloudy so today will be a blessing with blue sky and temp of about 78! Should make for a fine Thursday In the Baie!
Until later..............sicko Lue
