EARLY MORNING GET UP AND GO!

5:45 AM and we are underway departing Caleta San Juanico beginning a long day of probably ten hours of sailing to reach the Bahia Concepcion a 45 mile journey. The weather forecast if for calm waters so we will likely motor which is the time that we will make water as well. The day will be blessed with sunny skies so hopefully we will work on our coloring………….I don't like to call it a "tan". We are both careful not to burn and really do not sit for long in the sun but are managing to get a little browner. Claes teases me as he says my freckles are just getting more plentiful and bigger!!!

We had a great four days  at San Juanico; a few nice beaches, incredible geological formations not to mention the beautiful sunsets and rises and hours of hiking. We noticed many signs of spring as we quietly walked along the trails and back roads; the little birds were chirping and darting around us in and around the newly blooming bushes and cacti. Such a site to see these plants that look dead or nearly dead and yet are begining to  produce fruit, in this case flowers. I took some pictures for you to see; hope that you enjoy them. For us it was a treat to see the different colors of pink and white and yellow and the odd blue and purple….. as well as the usually little white daisy that we have seen a lot of. The temperature is changing and has hit the mid 80's with cloudy skies in the morning that the local weather guy calls "wispies". (Remember I told you that we get the weather from a daily broadcast that the Ham and shortwave people produce? It is a time when operators call in and share information and acquire information with the most important being the weather- right from the west coast of  North America around the Cape at San Jose up into the Gulf of California – Sea of Cortes which is where we are and then down the mainland coast of Mexico and down to The Panama Canel! Then when we are in a major or bigger centre there is the "local net" that provides local information. It is rather well presented and very helpful. For a lot of folks it is there main source of communication.

At present we have the VHF which is for local transmission and we have a Short Wave receiver that we can hear the weather on. Our hope is that we will obtain a short wave transmitter for next year.

Enough of that let-- me get back to our time up until now………..we have met so many fine folks and made many good relationships. Again last night we had a "pot luck" hosted by Doreen and Bob from S/V Scottish Mist initially out of Montana. We just met them the other day after we invited them to join us on the beach for a fire and supper. Wow! That was memorable--------thinking of the many campfires we sat around with our children and maybe some of you. For me I thought back of the days in Kelowna when I was a girl guide and the great times I had camping!!!! That is when I learnt how to make "Smores". I must submit them as a recipe!

There does seem to be more stars these days……..have you noticed? Perhaps it is because here there is less interference from lights then in the cities……….some night it is pretty dark. Like last night there was no moon! The past few weeks we so enjoyed watching it go through its' phases………………that is how Claes acknowledges how long we have been away by how many new moons he experiences. Yes, I think that is what it is experiencing the moon as we are enjoying it as much as the sun as we get to see it all through the night sometimes.

God is so good isn't He? We are so aware of Him and His creation out here! Being out here we are able to see this world differently and can appreciate that He is in control of it and doing a fine job!!  And then here I just watched a huge whale breaching along side our boat-- oh about a couple of hundred feet away! So massive and yet so elegant! Then thinking back this morning to yesterday as we walked along the beach –we filtered  what we thought was sand  in the form of trillions of broken shells glittering in the sun this mase of color and texture…………………and in amongst it all are some minute little shells….complete and whole. I will let you picture that in your minds eye but for me it represented how small I am in the world and yet I know that I know that God is taking care of me and has done so for nearly 60 years!!!!!  Phew sorry I got carried away there...........but I just could not help myself...........forgive me and indulge me for a few mintues.........I will download some more pictures so that you can grasp what I am trying to convey.

I better close for now...............Lue
