Boxing Day in Los Frailes

Good morning fleet!!!  Here we are after a quite night of home made enchiladas and a movie.  It was so good to receive emails from our girls and a few phone calls from my siblings and our most bestest pals in Comox  --The Mintons.  Brad sang us one of his brand new Christmas songs and lifted our spirits. God is so good to us!  Must admit yesterday was a pretty sad day on the WhiteShell.  It started out that way that is for sure..........the weather most of the day was cloudy and the waters full of a NNW wind--not enough to sail but enough to roll us around for awhile.  Our spirits were sad that is for sure and it took us all day to have them lifted up!  While on watch I listened to my IPOD to a speaker called  Andy Stanley (Junior)  who spoke about contentment and encouraged us to be aware of the moment and to live in it otherwise we are forever discontent and pining for what we used to have, or want........... after an hour of listenin...

Christmas Blessings to you all!

Having a difficult time writing as we are very contemplative tonight as we miss our family!! Good night!  Claes and Lue

CHRISTMAS WEEK IN MEXICO

Image
Our favourite time of year is here again and you know even though there is no snow it is still time to celebrate Our Lords birthday.          Even Santa Claes knows that right?? We are so happy to be here in this beautiful little bay of Los Meurtos--so nice and peaceful.  La Paz was pretty busy and very rambunctious at night as the locals as well as the tourista were celebrating a different festival each week........they have many.  They are a people who love their music so consequently being anchored out in the harbour was a tad loud.  It felt so good the last few nights to sit and enjoy the beauty of the starlit sky and the sound of the fish jumping.............man are they broiling right now.  The fisherman are very happy as they catch them for baite and the birds are filling their gullets too.  Joey is mesmerized by them and sits for hours watching.  He actually does the night watch you know. Yesterday, I spent the d...

Away from La Paz Bright and early this morning.

Beautiful trip back to Ensenada de Los Muertos  which is about 90 miles from San Jose del Cabos.  We arrived around 4ish anchored and relaxed as we waited for our delicious supper of fresh Sierra......a fish that Claes caught today.  It was great to get internet and to talk with my two sisters Irene and Annette and their spouses that are in Mesa Arizona. Both purchased park models this year. This is a new adventure for them as well and we are thrilled that it is going so well.  Brother Paul is there as well keeping track of them both so they are in good hands.  The only sad thing is that they will be returning to the cold weather Irene to Red Deer and Annette to Comox in the New Year. Tonight we will relax, read  a little and call it a night early.  Tomorrow there are alot of chores as we will begin to prepare for our company.  I hope to do a little baking as well.  Take a look at the libray list on the left side...........I finished ano...

LIVING ON THE HOOK IN LA PAZ

Yes, we have been out in the harbor for over a week now and are beginning to feel rather comfortable. Being only a dingy away from the dock is great as we motor back and forth whenever we need something even if it is just a social time. There is no shortage of that here as there are many, many cruisers, and ex-cruisers that visit and re-visit this area. This seems to be a very popular location probably because it is very nice weather wise, not overly commercialized and is populated by a very welcoming Mexican community. The cruiser presence is very strong and well organized but not cliquey. They are very involved in the community and are well received. The "Net" which airs every morning on the VHF introduces you to the area and provides all the information that you need while directing you to the Club Cruisero. Membership there is very dear—one hundred pesos per year-which gives you access to book trades, DVD borrowing, service information, weather reports and soci...

THE DOMESTIC WORKINGS OF LIVING ON BOARD

This post has been in the workings for a month or two as I have attempted to point out a few concerns for those that are planning on living on their boats and also for some of you who might be interested in our new life. As we spend more time aboard Whiteshell we continue to modify our style and we continue to learn as well making at work in progress. I will attempt to share points of interest and appreciate and look forward to any questions or comments.   Fine tuning the workings of the galley—kitchen in "boat" language. The first concern is space—there is not much of it which means that every piece of equipment must be very efficient and follow the ship' rule: everything must have two purposes. Having said that, initially a number of items were loaded down to the boat at the dock in Comox only to be brought back up and discarded. I just did not know what I would need or not need???? As the weeks went by of us living on the boat then later when we sailed sti...

We have been having allllll the fun!

Quite a treat to be in a town/city, in this case La Paz, which is fairly large and very clean and very nice! The folks are ready for all the cruisers and go out of there way to make our stay a good one.  There is a very avid club right here at Marina La Paz, which is close to the downtown area so becomes the centre and meeting place for everyone, whether you are on the hook or tied to a dock.  Some folks are here for most of the winter others, like us are just passing though.  Everyday there is program on the VHF  called the net where we can get all sorts of information and make social plans, followed by a coffee time at the club where one can again get info and sign out dvd or trade books.........I enjoyed that much as I was looking for more books by Maeve Binchy........she writes a good story filled with varied and colourful  characters.  Light reading but entertaining. The week as I previously said has been filled with lots of fun and walking.......as ...
