Saturday at the market

Got up early walking a couple of blocks up from the beach to find the street filled with little kiosks of every kind of veggie and fruits.  The usually store keepers spilled their inventory out on to the street as well.   Towards the end of the street we found the usual bigger commercial- local market with fish, a mixture of hanging carcasses, home made sausage and fresh eggs and the nicest assortment of fresh veggies and fruit. Strawberries huge and sweet….... Wow this was enjoyable. Definitely easy to do!   Now having a quite time charging the computers up at the club house.  Still feel rather struck and hope to have our energy back tomorrow.

OUR FIRST DAY in Ecuador

Posted about our arrival in Ecuador this morning!   Bahia de Caraquez is bigger than we expected.   The people of course make the plaace.   Just had a visit from the Health OFFICIALS.   Asking what we had brought with us regarding fruit food etc.   Medicine?   and how we deal with our garbage.   All great questions.  Cost $5.00   and some cookies.  Gave the gentleman a tour of the boat and he was all pleased.  Tonight we go sign our immigration papers- a student is here after college at the marina to speak English with us..do the paper work and the cabbie will take it to the officials in the next town.  So easy.  No running around for us.  Gotta love it. We are pretty tired tonight as it was a full five days 24/7  so we will chat again and post some pictures when we get the internet tomorrow.   (I hope)   The weather is rather nice.  It got pretty warm by early afternoon and now it is somew...

SET SAIL AT 06:00 Hours FEBRUARY 1ST 2014

Leaving the Perlas Islands and making our way out of Panama felt good.  Exciting actually and as we took our places in the wheel house we both wore huge big grins.  The day did not bring us much wind so we slowly made our way out of the Gulf of Panama.  We did sail  for the first three days- slowly at times but rather comfortable.  No motor to listen to.  LOL February 6-2014    We have just arrived here in Excudor at Bahia De Caraquez after travelling for the last six days.  Was such a beautiful night last night......moonshine, calm sea and a gentle south wind...........not what we needed but accepted it anyways.   We motor the last day and are pleased that we have arrived. Pedro, from Puerta Amisatad has guided us in over the sand bar and has now gone off with our paperwork to check us into the country.   We will chat again soon...just wanting to let you know we have safely arrived. The sun is shining through a cloudy sky and ...

SAILORS STOWING AWAY-SETTING SAFETY CHECKS AND SETTING SAIL

The past few months have been complete with lots of sunshine, beaches, and scheduled boat chores focusing on the next leg of our journey: ECUADOR. In the morning we will set off to begin that next leg of our adventure.  My goal is to spend time writing and catching you all up on the past few months and the account of the passage ahead of us. It is 653 nautical miles so can take up to a week ten days and as as little as four..........so we are praying for the best North winds, and the following current to take us right down 080'* North to about 03.* South and enter the estuary to moor age Bahia De Caracqas.   Please feel free to google it and see where will  spend the next few months.  The intention is to travel inland and begin our exploration of South America..........in the meantime gotta go to bed as The Captain want to "weigh"anchor very early and be away by sunrise. Please keep us in your prayers............not to worry as we are in His care.

SAILORS STRIKING THE DARIAN JUNGLE OFF THIER BUCKET LIST

Arriving in the Gulf of St Miguel on the 29th of December along with five other boats we anchored - after sunset but with the help of those who had arrived earlier all was well.  The night was rolly with quite a swell and adding to that excitement we slept little.

SAILORS COUNTING DOWN TO CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION ON THE BEACH

Both very pleased to be away- departed Panama City December 19-13 laughing all the way!  With bells hanging on the interior mast pole, baskets full of fresh fruit and vegies....the freezer bursting with ham and other meats we set out towards familiar ground- The Archipelago de las Perlas- The Pearl Islands mooring at Contadora, in front of the Restaurante Romantica.  On route we caught a lovely Dorado fish which had a mind of its own. LOL Claes had caught three Bonito Mackerals which we do not find to our liking so when the fourth hit struck his line ( which just kinda hangs off the side of the boat........with the hook floating near the surface)    he was excited when he realize this one felt different.  And different it was- a lovely Dorado our most favourite fish.   Getting him in the boat was quickly done and into the tote he went-licking all the way-  with the hook out of his mouth he- the fish was very intent on returning to the sea!...
