Three more sleeps and we are up early to fly out of San Salvadore city -making one stop in LA and arriving in Seattle around 1800 hours, where Ron and Patricia will meet us.  We are looking forward to a few days with them then will board the Victoria Clipper and sail to Vancouver Island where are good buddie Roz has left us her car to drive up island Saturday to Kye Bay.  JOEY   you better get ready we are on our way!!! little buddy. Hope it is not too cold but we have our fleece packed.  The last week though busy getting ready to leave I was able to go over to the little island across the lagoon to help at the elementary school.  The picture on the left is the eight that were there that day.  There was a funeral in the village that day so most of the folks were at that.  These kids were amazing!  Just loved us being there and were full of smiles.

HISTORY LESSONS of EL SALVADOR

Image
Our time here in this beautiful Central American country has been filled with much learning:  the language of course is always a challenge yet the locals are so willing to share about their beloved country. As we toured for a few days our guide, Horte which is George in English, was very eager to share the story of the smallest country of the Central Americas- EL SALVADOR.  With only 124 square miles the population is mostly in the Capital city of San Salvador and its outlying suburbs.  Within 15 minutes from the USA Embassy, which is in a very new area of this huge city we saw many many slopes filled with shanties.. roofs covered with tin or plastic and representing  peoples casas--homes.  Most people make a mere $7.00 PER DAY!!! On our tour the other day

SPANISH CLASSES SWIMMING & SOCIALIZING!!!!!!

Image
Phew!  It is a full time job this cruising life!   The language  lessons are great -- a little overwhelming at times then all of sudden it begins to make sense.  Claudia our Maestra is very kind and patient!  The Class is small and fun so all in all we are learning little by little.  My hope is to find a Spanish family when we get home and continue to practice as the goal is to be proficient when we arrive in Costa Rica next season. ( The fall of 2011)  That is still the plan.......we are not very far away now.......about 275 miles.  El Salvador is not a large country but there is alot to see here so we have decided to go on a little tour this week...............up to one of the volcanoes and check out a coffee plantation............a little artisian shopping and home again.  When we return in the fall we will explore Guatamala and En Salvador.............. Well must go for my swim...............and do some more of that Social stuff......

SAILORS ARE SWEATING!!!!!

Image
It is pretty darn hot down here!  Dont mean to aggravate those of you who are either in snow or rain but darn-- it gets warm close to the equator!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Been over a week that we have been in El Salvador and we can tell you that it is a very beautiful country. The Captain decided we needed a holiday so booked us into the Marina so we have been playing tourist all week.  Now picture that: early morning Spanish class,  swimming in the pool to do a few laps, showers on demand and Happy Hour complete with drink and appy specials!  Pretty fancy living and all very reasonable. (I think our tab for a week was around $200.  including our moorage and internet.)  Yesterday, we moved off the dock and are now anchored right out front with about thirty other boats.  We still have access to the pool and all the amenities aall part of the membership of the Cruisers Club for $14 USD.       We have not explored very much yet bu...
